Federico Cámara Halac holds a PhD in Music Theory and Composition from New York University (NYU, 2013–2019), where he studied under Jaime Oliver and Elizabeth Hoffman He also earned a Licentiate in Music Composition from the National University of Córdoba (UNC, 2006–2012) From 2019 to 2021, he served as a postdoctoral researcher in Immersive Audio at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) at The Ohio State University.

His work bridges multimedia performance, spatial audio, and the intersection of sound and machine learning—with a particular focus on how databases shape musical composition Federico builds digital instruments for live performance using signal analysis and Pure Data, and he designs immersive sound experiences for both multichannel setups and headphone listening His research also explores unsupervised learning techniques applied to audio and image analysis, through which he develops and theorizes multimedia database systems that connect sound, visuals, space, and performance All of his music, research, and code is shared openly.

His compositions and installations have been presented at international conferences and festivals including NYCEMF, ICMC, Tehran International Music Week, Virginia Tech’s CUBE Fest, IRCAM’s Manifeste Festival (Paris), the Delian Academy for New Music (Mykonos), and Mixtur Festival (Barcelona), among others.

Federico has received numerous honors, such as the MacCracken Fellowship (NYU), the Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship (Berlin), Graduate Research Initiative grants (Paris and Florence), a grant from the Student Senators Council (Shanghai), and the Programa Cuarto Centenario award from UNC to study at l’Université de Montréal (Québec).

He has performed and collaborated with leading new music ensembles including TAK, loadbang, Talea, RAGE Thormbones, and Iktus Percussion He is also a founding member of two experimental music collectives: Proyecto[Red]Ensamble (Córdoba, 2010–2014) and Waverly Project (NYC, 2014–2019).
